So how can you tell when someone is trying to sell you a product? When a marketing firm wants to know what clicks and what doesn't? All you have to do is stick around for the Democratic Convention in Denver. The Democrats are selling us Barack Obama. When they created the tag, "America in Decline" like words from a movie trailer they gave us the star of the film. Barack Obama, young, handsome, charismatic, fresh. He's the star of the show. His upcoming concert proves that point. The Democrats packaging him and his wife as JFK and Jacky Kennedy also prove just how manufactured the Obama's really are. Just how much of a product they have to be in order to win.

Unlike any election prior, this one has been all about "rock star" appeal and the image, rather than the substance. Democrats would argue that Senator Obama has substance but if that were the case Hillary Clinton would be the nominee. She lacked the style and "Wow" that shot Barack Obama into the pop culture stratosphere. They called her a wonk and boring, that straight A student opposite of Barack Obama's cool kid in class image. But if cool people make good presidents, then what happened to George W. Bush? After all it was Karl Rove who once spoke of Bush as this guy who hip and cool. Rove said Bush had this way about him, as if he knew he was the coolest guy in the room.

It's no secret the media will hype this upcoming speech as the greatest in our nation's history. The JFK comparisons have already begun. But again I ask, is middle America looking for a rock star or a president? Or is this just a treat for the Coastal progressives and the college crowd? The media that will undoubtedly elect Obama president that night. I guess what they say is true, image is everything. Right now the Democrats want to paint a picture of someone whose larger than life. Untouchable in his words and manner. But as the image builds so does the pressure to keep people coming back. If Obama is all image and manufactured then what reason is there for people to come back, or should I say Independents, Reagan Democrats, and Bush fatigue Republicans to side with Obama?

If they're easily attracted to the image without hearing the true substance then they'll melt right in his hands no problem. I on the other hand, I guess I know better than that. I guess unlike my fellow young voters I'm not so easily persuaded. I actually vote for candidates based on my own believes and where I stand on the issues. Perhaps America is in such decline all that gets thrown out the window. And maybe Obama's inevitability breaks into a million pieces and McCain becomes what Obama was during the primary. If I were McCain I wouldn't worry about this marketing scheme. In the end real Americans don't care about pizazz, they don't care about the image. They care about the substance.

I'd like a president please......and hold the glitter.
